Football Talent, Digital Literacy, and entrepreneurship demonstrated the potential to bridge the socioeconomic gap for the youth and women in Ewuaso Kedong Kajiado County.

Olokirdingae village in Ewuaso Kedong, Kajiado County, came alive on Saturday 8th October 2022 with the FIRST-EVER TALENT EVENT organised by Hope Ventures. With over 600 villagers in attendance; men, women, youth and children and over 150 participants from Hope Ventures, the Talent Event was graced by the Member of Parliament of Kibra constituency, Hon. Peter Orero and local Administrative and Government Officers.

Community gathered to witness a first-ever talent event

The objective of the Talent Event was to expose the youth and children of Olokirdingae village to new opportunities and knowledge, as well as create a working relationship with the community. Hope Ventures is working to establish various projects on its 19 acres piece of land in Olakirdingae village, which includes; an Educational Centre to host a primary school, secondary school, a Digital centre and tertiary college, and Agricultural projects, among others.

The event encompassed several activities, including a football tournament dubbed the boots and sticks talent event, which hosted four football teams which included Young Deserts FC, Nabulu FC, Olkirdingai FC and Chrisco Youth. The Young Deserts FC, who emerged the winners of the tournament took home a trophy, while Hon. Peter Orero also pledged to support the top talented youth from the community who were identified during the event.

The Talent Event also hosted various partners who showcased their products and services and offered competition opportunities to the youth and children in their areas of expertise. They also graciously awarded gifts to the various winners in each category. These included: The African Centre for Women, Information & Communications Technology (ACWICT), TomorrowNow, Computer Revolution Africa, Cooperative Bank of Kenya, CHRISCO Educational Centre and BAOBAB Circle.

The women from the Ewuaso Kedong community also had an opportunity to showcase their irresistible beautiful Maasai beadwork. The presence of guests and other participants allowed them to market and closed many sales of the beautiful products. In bringing Hope to the community, Hope Ventures believe that supporting community-led entrepreneurship efforts will help spur rural economic empowerment.

The day was fun-filled and eye-opening for the community in Olokirdingae Village, and everyone enjoyed a warm plate of Pilau and beef stew after the big game.
